After building up a good name in the list of PC vendors, Dell moved towards selling smartphones and tablets to its customers. Now, it is shifting its focus to Work-and-play Smartphones and Tablets.
Dell is looking forward towards developing devices that can be used both for work and play purposes, reported a Dell executive. According to Steve Lalla, the vice president and general manager of mobility products and solutions, Dell, “Future tablets and smartphones from Dell will be aimed at an audience that wants them for both business and personal use”.
“We spent the first few years going after a pure consumer play. We had moderate success but we really wanted to align our strategy to our core business proposition,” The vice president said in the World Conference of Dell, held at Austin, Texas. He also added in his note “Dell will release a new smartphone or tablet later this year and further devices next year”
Dell had taken a decision of shifting its focus from consumer level to product level, last year. With this objective, it has released its series of Streak tablets in different screen sizes that are designed to run Google’s Android operating system. However, in august, Dell stopped selling Streak 5 due to its poor sales. Another range of Dell smartphones includes the Venue smartphones that run both Google’s Android and Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 operating systems. But, even this could not give outstanding sales.
As the earlier smartphones of Dell were not as successful as expected; hence, Dell has now decided to go much deeper in this business and enhance its quality and service. For this, it is now building alliances with leading wireless and relevant companies, so as to make its future devices successful. On this issue, Lalla made his point as “I think it’s on this journey from this kind of a standalone [device], let’s get it started, let’s get a feel for what matters to whom, and now we’re taking it to the next level.”
The Dell executives also announced that the future devices from Dell will include devices running both Google Android and the Microsoft’s latest version, Windows 8 operating systems.
The Dell’s future mobile devices will also include access to corporate cloud applications, easy management and better security, reported the Dell’s executives. They have also denied the news that Dell had stopped providing support for Windows 7 phone. They said that the support services are still on and Dell is now looking forward to the next level of Windows, the Windows 8 operating system for its upcoming devices.
