Facebook’s attempt to interest its users with its new, smart News Feed has failed. Over years, facebook had been the top most social networking website. But, with the increasing competition, it has now initiated making advanced changes in its portal. One of them is the new, big and smart News Feed. Earlier the facebook news feed was a two tabbed box, comprising “Top Stories” or facebook updates that would interest the users, in the first tab, and “Most Recent” updates in the other tab. But later on, facebook decided to make its news feed much better and attractive. For this, facebook integrated its news feed in a single, large tab. Now, the news feed consist both the Top Stories and Most Recent updates on a single tabbed news feed. However, like earlier, facebook will still try to determine your fields of interest (based on your browsing history) and accordingly, display these as Top Stories, highlighted with a blue corner. According to facebook’s updates theory, the determination of top stories is based on some factors, which include: your relationship with the person, who posts the update; the number of likes and responses got to the update post and the relevancy of the update. However, if you are not willing to view the update, you can hide it through the drop down menu, which gives you the facility to hide all the posts by the concerned sender and report it spam. Though facebook has launched this for the convenience of its users, but as the responses are flowing in by the users, doesn’t seem positive. Few days back, the annoyance of the facebook users was noticed from the reviews put up on the PCWorld’s facebook page. According to Deven Tourond, a regular facebook user, “I don’t like this update because now it’s a bit more confusing to find recent updates. I do like the new update they added to the top of the page, now I can scroll through the page and the header follows me.” Another facebook user, Anthony Nozzi complains that “FB should have a simple toggle function between ‘recent stories’ and ‘top stories,’ “. He adds, “Better yet, they should enable a user to prioritize their news feeds by assigning a ranking score to each particular page that provides the news feeds. That way, a user can control which pages get the highest priority in providing news feeds.” One Response to Facebook’s attempt to interest its users with its new, smart News Feed has failed.
