Google brings patches 15 vulnerabilities in Chrome 15 and upgraded to Chrome 16 After bringing the patches for Chrome 15’s vulnerabilities on December 13, 2011, Google has released its new version of Chrome. With Chrome 16, Google has introduced a new feature of multi-user synchronization in its Chrome web browser. The last update done by Google for Chrome was on Oct 25, in accordance to its stable update channel. Under this technique, Google updates its web browsers every six to eight weeks, unlike Mozilla, which updates its web browsers at regular six week pace. When deciding for releasing the Chrome 15 patches, Google paid $6000 for finding out the bugs in Chrome 15 to the five researchers who reported 7 bugs in the web browser. The remaining 8 were located by the Google’s internal security team itself. Out of the 15 bugs reported in Chrome 15, six were rated “High”, seven were rated “Medium” and the remaining two were labeled “Low”, as according to their vulnerability. Most of the bugs detected in Chrome 15 were found with the help of Address Sanitizer, Google’s memory error detection tool that is capable of detecting a variety of memory management bugs and errors. Usually, Google includes only some changes in its update process. Keeping up to their objective, this time Google introduced only the multi-user synchronization of apps, bookmarks, passwords and more, in to their Chrome upgrade. This added feature enables Google users to work on shared systems. With this feature, several users can use Chrome 16 on a shared Mac or Windows computer. The upgraded version of Google, Chrome 16 can be used for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux and can be easily downloaded from Google’s Web site. Google users already running the Chrome browser will be updated automatically via the Google’s silent update service. |
