Google starts Listing Google+ brand pages to search results With the increase in competition, Google has now started enlisting its Google+ brand pages on its search engine. Hence, whenever a page is searched on the Google search engine, a list of Google+ promotional brand advertisements will also be seen in the search result page. The page listings include promotional messages that work as advertisements for both the relative brands and Google+. These promotional brand listings are less in number at present, and include popular brand names like AT&T and Macy’s. The brand listing is prominent with the T-Mobile search results, which promotes the Android app for the Google’s social network as well as a music sale sponsored by Google. The brand promotion on Google’s search result page was earlier reported by All About Content, and now it has been confirmed by BrightEdge Technologies. The BrightEdge Technologies, which has been analysing and tracking Google+ pages since the launch of the brand promotion feature in it, explains “This increases exposure of brands’ Google+ pages to the billions of people using Google search around the globe,” Even though Google looks at this feature as merely a new idea to answer the queries of its users, its competitors have complained about it to be cheating on Google users and have dropped a complaint in a Senate antitrust subcommittee. Even the members of the panel have urged to federal regulators to investigate about the issue. However Google is still stuck to its views and defends itself. “The creation of a page will not influence your ranking in web results. We are always improving our algorithms to provide the most relevant search results,” a Google representative said to a news channel. “While Google+ Pages will be ranked like other search results, content from a page, such as recent posts, may appear as annotations attached to its associated Web page under the site links when the latter appears as a regular search result.” He added. In-spite of this debate, the leading brands are increasingly associating themselves with Google+. As reported by BrightEdge, the association has increased upto 17% in the past month and leading brands like IBM and Vodafone have also enlisted themselves on the Google+ brand pages. |
