Microsoft retired its services for Office XP, Vista SP1 on July 12, 2011 In its July 12 Patch, Microsoft declared the retirement of both Office XP and Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1). All the supports for these applications have been declined since July 12. The support system of Microsoft includes services for the business products for 10 years. The first five years are referred as “mainstream support”, where Microsoft provides support for free. The last five years are referred as “extended support”, wherein the support services are offered on paid basis. The support services of Microsoft include patches for all kinds of security vulnerabilities for 10 years of the product launch. For XP Office, the support expired on July 12. However, vista users can continue to use the service packs by upgrading to SP2, launched in May 2009. Vista SP2 can be installed through Windows Update or through the direct downloading of SP2 32-bit or 64-bit. Vista SP1 and Office XP were last patched four weeks ago when Microsoft issued 16 security updates for fixing 34 flaws. The security updates for Office 2003 are available until 2014 and other Office versions, Office 2007 and 2010 will receive support till April 2017 and October 2020, respectively. Talking aboutVistaservice packs, the consumer editions of Vista SP2 including, Vista Home Premium, Home Basic and Ultimate, will expire in April 2012. However, the corporate versions of Vista Enterprise and Vista Business will be receiving security patches until mid-April 2017. |
