Technology News – Windows 8 logo, a window to explore technology- origin to the contemporary

windows-8-logoWindows 8 Operating system has yet again given rise to a new storm in the tea cup. It is the new logo which is to be replaced and is said to have designed apparently as an ode to the Windows OS 1.O which had its grand landing to the computer world in the mid 80s. According to a technology news, February 17 witnessed an official blog from Sam Moreau, Windows’ principal director of user experiences, revealed the fact of Windows logo been redesigned with an essence of the trend setter Windows OS 1.0. The blog says new logo has been developed through the help of design consulting firm Pentagram. It is also designed to give the users a glimpse of the Windows’ new “Metro style design principles” that is inspired all the way from its origin. If users come into acquaintance with Windows 1.0′s logo, which featured clean lines and a rounded geometric design they would find a close resemblance to the new Windows 8. This design is a diagram with neat, angled emblem more alike Windows’ namesake. To add impetus Moreau says, “It’s a window…not a flag.”

Windows’ principal director of user experiences had more to say to certify their vision owing to the new Windows 8 logo:

“With Windows 8, we approached the logo redesign with a few key goals on mind.

  • We wanted the new logo to be both modern and classic by echoing the International Typographic Style (or Swiss design) that has been a great influence on our Metro style design philosophy. Using bold flat colors and clean lines and shapes, the new logo has the characteristics of way-finding design systems seen in airports and subways.
  • It was important that the new logo carries our Metro principle of being “Authentically Digital”. By that, we mean it does not try to emulate faux-industrial design characteristics such as materiality (glass, wood, plastic, etc.). It has motion – aligning with the fast and fluid style you’ll find throughout Windows 8.
  • Our final goal was for the new logo to be humble, yet confident. Welcoming you in with a slight tilt in perspective and when you change your color, the logo changes to reflect you. It is a “Personal” Computer after all.”

Verge added a point more to the informative section regarding the highly talked about logo of Windows 8 which most likely “will appear in the charms bar, activated by touch, mouse or keyboard. It is also expected to replace other instances of the traditional flag in Windows 8, making a fundamental change of design aesthetic combined with Microsoft’s Metro style Start Screen.”

Microsoft and Windows had time and again given a world to explore technology and had empowered the users to utilize as and according to their own perspectives. It has opened the window for the users to dive into the roots of the OS and yet find themselves at par and pace with the new. New Windows logo depicts Windows 8 as a window to explore technology at its best.
