How to increase the computer speed using msconfig utility?

The computer speed often depends upon the booting time of Windows. You can configure your Windows XP, so that it takes less start-up time. This is possible when the computer uses minimum start-up programs and services for booting. As these services load automatically with each boot process, the larger number of startup programs are included while booting, the more time the computer will take for starting up. Therefore, by using the “Windows System Configuration (msconfig)” utility, you can limit the list of windows necessary programs required during computer start-up.

Follow the below given steps to edit the msconfig utility for limiting the list of Windows programs:

• Log into your Windows XP with admin rights
• Click Start>> Run, and type “msconfig” to run Configuration Utility
• A small Windows with “System Configuration Utility” dialog box will appear
• Select the Services and Startup tab from the list
• First click to view the list of Windows startup programs
• Uncheck the startup program that slows down your Boot process or a program that is no more useful to be loaded.
• Click on Apply to save the settings
• Now click on “Services” tab to view all the running windows services.
• Check the option “Hide All Microsoft Services” from the bottom to hide all windows necessary services.
• Uncheck the entire unnecessary service box to remove all the unnecessary programs
• Click Apply to save the settings

Now turn off your Windows XP and restart it. You will notice that the boot time has decreased and your computer start up speed increases.
